It also allows you to

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 5:23 pm

It also allows you to make contact
with your computer and lets you use one headset for both
the cell phone and PC simultaneously. If you feel that
you?re going to have the need for features such as these,
then consider purchasing this type of product.

Though Bluetooth products such as these are compatible with
most types of phones and carriers, that?s not true in
every case. Before making a purchase, be sure that there
are no compatibility issues. You?ll need to be sure that
your phone complies with Bluetooth 1.1 or greater and that
it offers the options of both hands-free and headset
capabilities. Plug compatibility isn?t an issue, since
it?s a wireless unit.

If you?re not planning to wear the headset or headphones
all day, then you?ll need to be sure that they?re kept
close at hand if a call should happen to come in on your
phone. You may need to place it on a cord around your neck
so that you?re free to move about without the worry of
leaving your Bluetooth somewhere. That means that you?ll
have to ensure that your equipment has a loop that will
allow a strap connection.

Other things to consider are whether or not your set can be
used if you wear eyeglasses, the cost and range of the
unit, ease and comfortability of use, weight, the ability
to switch from one ear to the other, technical support, the
presence of a pairing password, appropriate monitors for
battery limits, effective noise cancellation and a plethora
of other features that you may feel are necessary.

Get to know yourself and your physical

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:01 pm

Get to know yourself and your physical responses to situations as they arise. If you are “too blessed to be stressed” your blood pressure should agree.

In fact, your body will tell you when you believe your survival is at stake. How exactly do you feel when you arrive at work? When the phone rings? When a certain person approaches? If you feel like something is terribly wrong in any of those scenarios -it probably is!

Its time to get back to what feels right and possibly time to rid yourself of the situations that feel wrong. It is quite possible to be addicted to feeling revved up, excited, and ready for the worst, but your body is not made to sustain those feelings for long.

Find ways to relax. Develop a plan to do the things that you really want to do. Most important, identify the people, places, and things that cause you to feel like something important is at stake. If something is at stake, address it. If not, find a way to let it go. Your body, mind, and spirit will be ever so grateful.

Jerry Seinfeld Hosts Monticello Motor Club Gala Launch Event

Business Wire, May 13, 2008

Exclusive Race Resort Welcomes Members and Celebrity Guests

MONTICELLO, N.Y. — Monticello Motor Club (MMC) hosted a launch party at NYC’s legendary Cipriani. Guests included a select group of automotive enthusiasts, including MMC member Jerry Seinfeld and racing legends Mario Andretti, Brian Redman and Bobby Rahal. Bob Varsha, Speed TV commentator, served as emcee for a spectacular evening of fun and excitement.

MMC is the world’s most exclusive private motor sports country club. Located just 75 minutes from New York City, the track is scheduled to open this summer.

“Monticello Motor Club guests had a small taste of the excitement planned for our members,” said President Bill McMichael. “As exciting as the virtual track and 3D models on display this evening are, the actual track is much more impressive and the countdown to our grand opening has begun.”

Featured exotic cars included one of only two Ferrari Scuderias in the US, a Bugatti Veyron capable of 250 MPH, a Porsche Carrera GT, and vintage racecars including Brian Redman’s 1970 Targa Florio winning Porsche 908/3, Bobby Rahal’s Indycar and the last car Mario Andretti drove in competition.

One lucky guest, Joe Masessa, won a complimentary membership.

Guests tested their driving skills on Virtual GT simulators featuring MMC’s challenging 4.1 mile grand prix course and witnessed Andretti, Rahal and Redman drive the first-ever ceremonial laps on a large viewing screen.

The track is designed by Bruce Hawkins and racing legend Brian Redman. The resort includes a 30,000 square foot clubhouse, five-star spa, dining, premium car storage, luxury accommodations and exercise facilities.

Members can fuel their passion for performance with unprecedented track access of up to 200 track days annually to test their skills by touring, lapping and racing. The track can operate as three independent circuits and offers European-style grand corners, thrilling elevation changes, 22 turns and one of the longest straights in North America.

Unrivaled in convenience and privacy, and the closest motorsports venue to New York City, Monticello Motor Club memberships begin at $100,000, increasing to $125,000 on June 1, 2008. Membership will be limited to 500 resident members and is by invitation only

SCALLOPS ON MASHED PEAS, WITH ARTICHOKE CRISPS Serves 4 To get your cooking up to Michelin star level, it is all about the small detail: the precise chopping of vegetables, the fine textures and exquisite presentation. So why not rise to the challenge for a starter your guests will never forget? Scallops are an ideal candidate, as they require quick cooking and allow time for a little more technical flourish. With a julienne slice here and a smooth paste of pea there, you can bring out the gourmet in your cooking.

INGREDIENTS: 8 scallops 1 lime, juice and peel salt pepper extra- virgin olive oil four artichokes 300g peas 50g onion 70g extra- virgin olive oil salt 20g curly lettuce 20g arugula 20g pea shoots METHOD For the scallops: [mu] Open and clean the scallops. Cut in half-inch thick slices and marinate with the olive oil, lime peel, lime juice, salt and pepper.

For the mashed peas: [mu] Pour the extra-virgin olive oil into a pan, add the onion, sliced into julienne (matchstick) strips, let it cook over a medium heat until it wilts. Add the peas and cook over a high heat. If necessary, add water. At the end add salt to taste. Blend to form a creamy, smooth paste.

Artichokes [mu] Clean the artichokes, removing all the leaves and leaving only the heart. Slice two a la brunoise (into fine cubes) and cook in a pan with extra virgin olive oil, a clove of sliced garlic and vegetable stock tomake the vinaigrette. Cut the other two with a mandolin into thin slices and fry in plenty of oil in order to make the crisps

Small businesses in the Westcountry can apply for loans of up to Pounds 5,000 following the creation of a Pounds 2 million fund for the South West.

The South West Micro Loan will support small businesses and start- ups in Plymouth, Torbay and Bristol.

Truro-based not-for-profit South West Investment Group (Services) Limited has been appointed as fund manager to deliver the loans. The micro loans fund is one of a suite of business support measures being introduced to try and develop an enterprise culture within disadvantaged areas.

The scheme is backed by the European Regional Development Fund, the South West Regional Development Agency and SWIG (Services) sister company South West Investment Group (Capital) Limited. David Parlby, chief executive of Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Plymouth European Competitiveness Funding Forum (PECFF), said: “This initiative marks another step in the right direction within the overall Urban Enterprise programme. John Berry, of SWIG (Capital), said: “The fund will complement the South West Loans Fund and provide an opportunity for those with a good plan and the drive to deliver it to make something for themselves.”

Where are bins?

0 Comments | Plymouth Evening Herald, The, Jul 24, 2010

I WAS amazed at the headline that the cost of cleaning up litter is Pounds 2.8 million.

Since April I have been trying to get the council to replace litter bins that were removed from outside the university. I was informed on May 18 that a bin would be replaced, and also that a bin would be put by the Citybus offices. Both have yet to happen.

Now, more litter bins have vanished from outside Hyde Park school, outside the Swarthmore Centre and outside the Junction pub in Mutley. If this is the council’s policy, I feel we have no hope

All Saints hits pay dirt in US

0 Comments | Mail on Sunday (London, England), The, July 25, 2010

BRITISH fashion retailer All Saints has agreed a [pounds sterling]5 million extension to its banking facility to help it cover the cost of its rapid expansion overseas.

Finance director Jamie Grant said the increase had been agreed until November at which point it is expected to be repaid.

Grant said the agreement with Lloyds TSB was ‘based on how well the US has been trading and how our store in SoHo in New York has been received’.

The brand opened its first US store in Los Angeles last year and now has five in the country. The arrangement will allow All Saints to open at least three more stores in the US later this year, Grant said. The company is understood to want a total of more than 30 stores there.

Sales at All Saints increased by 46 per cent to [pounds sterling]133 million in the year to January and profit doubled to [pounds sterling]10.7 million.

Last year it was reported that All Saints had secured a [pounds sterling]30 million facility with Lloyds.

Accounts filed in April revealed that this had later been increased to [pounds sterling]46 million.

It’s called fight-or-flight.

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 1:40 pm

It’s called fight-or-flight. It is typified by rapid breathing, and a diversion of oxygenated blood from the visceral area to muscles. As well, blood moves from the brain’s thinking area (

frontal lobes

) to that part of the brain that is responsible for survival reactions (

reptilian brain

). Under stress, we just don’t think as well.

We learn by taking in information through all our senses.

The top three ways we learn is seeing, hearing, and touching. Most instructors do not think that learning through touch and movement is useful beyond the lower grades. Generally speaking, school systems cater to visual and auditory learners. Those whose principal learning mode is kinesthetic (

touch, movement, experience

) operate at a distinct disadvantage. This group makes up a large portion of high-school dropouts.

The concept of different learning styles goes far beyond just visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.

I am sure you know that most people have a dominant hand and a dominant brain hemisphere.

Stronger than the wind! Can Nikia master the tricky ‘reshes’ and

0 Comments | Jerusalem Post, Jul 2, 2010 | by DAVID BRINN

Any English-speaking immigrant who’s faced the tongue- twisting challenge of learning Hebrew can empathize with Nikia Brown’s plight.

No matter how long most of us have worked at wrapping our mouths around those “reshes” and “hets,” and perfecting that Sabra pronunciation, it still comes out sounding like we just got off the boat.

The only difference between us and the 34-year-old African- American convert to Judaism is that while the neighborhood makolet man is the one snickering at us, Brown is getting critiqued on national television.

One of the 18 finalists in the eighth season of the popular Channel 2 singing competition series Kochav Nolad (A Star is Born), Brown, who lives in Holon, barely knew a word of Hebrew two months ago when she decided on a whim to try out for the show.

“When I first auditioned, I didn’t realize that I would have to sing in Hebrew every week. I could have fainted when they told me,” Brown said on Wednesday, during a short break in between rehearsals for that night’s show in which she was tackling Gali Atari’s “Stronger than Wind.”

It was Brown’s bluesy, gospel voice – despite its prominent accent and pronunciation problems – that in May carried her into the competition that has made stars out of the likes of Shiri Maimon, Harel Skaat and Ninet Tayeb.

That and her intriguing back-end story. Brown and her husband, Terry, converted to Judaism after getting married and making their home in Kansas City, Missouri.

“We were searching for something, and we ended up going to synagogue services once,” said Brown. “Then the more we learned about Judaism, the more we fell in love with it. It comes from someplace deep in our hearts.

Almost three years ago, Terry surprised Brown with a vacation to Israel – and they and their newborn daughter Tziporah never left.

“We loved it here, and have started the aliya process, which is still in process,” said Brown, likely referring to frequent problems that black American convert immigrants encounter from the Interior Ministry before they receive citizenship.

Brown wasn’t aware that an Israeli version of the hit US series American Idol existed until a friend mentioned it and suggested that she audition.

“I didn’t even decide to go to the audition until the night before. I waited 12 hours, and sang a verse of [hip hot hit] “Ein Gvulot” by Sivan that I had memorized – I didn’t know any songs in Hebrew,” said Brown.

For her final audition, she used English phonetics to learn the lyrics to Arik Einstein’s classic “Uf Gozal” (Fly, Little Nestling), and her performance resulted in Brown becoming the first finalist in Kochav Nolad’s history who didn’t know Hebrew.

Her selection was tempered by the trepidation of the judges, including Dana International and Tsedi Tzarfaty, who warned Brown that her Hebrew deficiencies were likely to be a formidable obstacle in the competition, a high- level field filled with seasoned singers whose main advantage over Brown was their fluency in the language they were singing in.

Enter Yoel and Orly Ganor, the directors of Ulpan Or – with its logo, “Learning Hebrew at the speed of light.”
